Fred U. Campos

Fred Campos grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and came to Arlington State College (ASC) in the fall of 1964 after graduating from Fort Worth Technical High School.  He joined the Military Science Department Corps of Cadets and became a member of the Sam Houston Rifles.  After the Vietnam Tet Offensive in the spring of 1968, Fred left ASC and entered the United States Marine Corps.  He served on active duty from 1968 through 1970 and was in the reserves until 1974.

After returning to civilian life, Fred began his information technology career at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in Dallas, Texas. He completed their 18-month Systems Engineering Development program, where he graduated at the top of his class.  In 1977 Fred went to work for S&A Corporation where he wrote a specialized software application that polled information remotely and transmitted it to the corporate headquarters.  S&A sold the software to Pillsbury and Burger King for use in a nationwide application.  In 1985 Fred started a 20-year career with Tandem Computers as the Southern U.S. Director, which included 13 states and Latin America.

In 1991, Fred returned to school and graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with majors in computer science and business law.

In 1996, while still employed by Tandem Computers, Fred was one of three principals who formed a software company named Remit Plus Software, Inc. They developed an electronic check-processing system, Check-21, which allows checks to be digitally processed.  The application became the industry check-processing system after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack in New York City.  At that time President George W. Bush grounded all air transportation and checks could not be processed through the Federal Reserve System, so Congress enacted the Check-21 Act using the system Remit Plus Software developed.  Remit Plus Software was acquired, and today the software is the standard in the financial industry.  Fred’s career quickly advanced and, because of his technical programming skills, he became an internal Systems Programmer writing channel programs for IBM systems.  Fred is currently employed as the Western United States Embedded Software Sales Representative for IBM.

In 1997, Fred formed DFW Pug Rescue Club, Inc., (DFWPRC) for the rescue, care, and placement of all pug dogs, regardless of their age or medical condition.  Today, DFWPRC is the largest pug rescue organization in the United States and has more than 3,500 members worldwide.  DFWPRC has placed pugs in 28 states, Germany, British Columbia, and Japan.  To date, the organization has placed over 6,500 pugs.  Fred is a director at DFWPRC and is still actively involved in the organization’s efforts.

Fred has been a member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and is currently a member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club (M/C).  He has been the Events Director for the Annual Run to the Texas Vietnam Memorial at Fair Park that occurs on the last Saturday before Veterans Day, a position held since 1998.  All proceeds from the event are donated to the Friends of the Texas Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial who care for the memorial.

Fred has been a very active Life Member of the Cadet Corps Alumni Council since 2005.  He is currently serving on the CCAC Executive Board and working with a committee to redesign the CCAC website, among other advisory actions.

Fred and his wife Patty reside in Grapevine, Texas. They have three grown children and nine grandchildren.
