After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on Feb. 24, 2022, Mr. Kim left the ROTC department, joined the International Legion of Territorial Defense in August amidst the start of Ukraine’s counter-attack, and acquired full serviceman status. Mr. Kim donated 100% of the money he earned from service to Ukrainian families.
Paul Kim was a man of many talents. He was a man of God in the Catholic faith, loved puns, consumed food like a prized competitive eater, and to the Corps of the Cadets of the Maverick Battalion and the Cadre at UTA and UNT, he was a leader, a mentor, and a respected friend who is missed greatly. CPT Paul Kim was killed in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, on Oct. 5, 2022.
