LTC (Ret) Raymond R. Andrae
Lieutenant Colonel (ret) Raymond R. Andrae, graduated from Elkhart Senior High School in Elkhard, Indiana. He received a BS in Business Administration from Troy State University in 1973 and a MS in Community Agency Counseling and Guidance from Troy State in 1974. LTC Andrae took AG Officer Basic Course and Advanced Courses and the Army Command and General Staff College.
In 1955, LTC Andrae enlisted in the United States Army and served in the United States and in Europe in various positions. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was in the U.S. Army Europe Honor Guard and was selected as Soldier of the Year of the 806th Engineer Battalion. I n 1962 at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, he was appointed Warrant Officer, and was the youngest Adjutant General Corps Warrant Officer appointed at the time.
LTC Andrae received a direct commission in 1964 and served as a Second Lieutenant in the Adjutant General Corps. The next several years brought tours of service in the United States, Europe and Vietnam. In 1976 he was assigned to the Military Science Department at the University of Texas at Arlington as Assistant Professor of Military Science.
During his years as Assistant Professor of Military Science, the first female Commander of the Corps of Cadets was appointed and the first female was commissioned from the Maverick Battalion. He served as advisor to the Sam Houston Rifles Drill Team, which won the state drill team championship in 1978; and, he was instrumental in\I the establishment of the UTA Military Science Hall of Honor.
In 1979, upon promotion to LTC, he assumed the position of Professor of Military Science and successfully managed UTA’s Military Science Department until his retirement in 1981. In 1981, the University of Texas at Arlington’s Military Science Department was recognized as on of the outstanding programs in the state of Texas. Upon his retirement, he was appointed an Honorary Cadet Colonel in the Corps of Cadets.
In his long military career, LTC Andrae received the Legion of Merit; Air Medal; Meritorious Service medal; Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart; Army Commendation Medal (5 awards); Good Conduct Medal (2 awards); and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge. LTC Andrae was honored in 1993 as an Honorary Distinguished Alumni by the University of Texas at Arlington.
Since his retirement, LTC Andrae has served as a consultant to a number of small businesses before entering a new career in church administration. He served as a church administrator from 1984-1997 at various churches in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. LTC Andrae is now retired, but is still active in professional organizations, as well as church and community activities, and continues his support to the Corps of Cadets.
LTC Andrae and his wife have been married for 42 years. They are the proud parents of two grown sons and three grandchildren. They currently reside in Grapevine, Texas.
