COL (Ret) Michael W. Parker
Colonel Parker attended the University of Texas at Arlington from 1967-1971. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets, the commander of the Sam Houston Rifles, and was the Corps Commander his senior year. Colonel Parker was a distinguished military graduate and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.
Colonel Parker was initially assigned to the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his assignment at Fort Bragg he served in a variety of positions at platoon, company, and battalion level as a Lieutenant. His next assignment took him to Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as a Company Commander and as a Battalion Staff Officer (S3) with the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division.
Following his assignment as an instructor at the U.S. Army Logistics Management Center, Ft. Lee, Virginia, he was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized), forward deployed in Europe, where he served as Secretary of the General Staff. He also served as Executive Officer, 4th Battalion, 8th Infantry and Operations Officer (S3) for the 3d Brigade in Mannheim, Germany.
Colonel Parker commanded the 1st Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division, a combined arms battalion, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm where the unit earned the Valorous Unit Citation. He later served as the Deputy Chief of Staff Training for the Second, and later First, Army at Fort Gillem, Georgia. He then served as Chief of Training Division and Assistant Chief of Staff, G3, Eighth Army in South Korea. In 1998 he was assigned to III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas, as the Deputy Chief of Staff. He retired from military service in September 2001. He continues to serve the good people of Central Texas.
Colonel Parker holds a Master of Science in Logistics Management and a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Logistic Executive Development Course, Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.
Among his awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Sliver Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Army Ranger Tab.
Colonel Parker is married to the former Judy Lynn Belknap (they met while working at Six Flags). They have three children—John, Bryan, and Katy–who all reside in Texas.
