S. Floyd Wine, Jr.

Floyd Wine is from Arlington, Texas. He was a member of the Corps Band and Sam Houston Rifles Drill Team while enrolled in the Corps of Cadets ROTC program at the University of Texas at Arlington. He graduated from UTA in 1969 with an Associate Degree in Aeronautical Engineering Technology and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1983.

Floyd attended the University with a scholarship in music, but he declined the scholarship his second semester in order to participate in the Sam Houston Rifles. He left the Corps after two years when he was unable to qualify for a contract due to existing medical conditions. He began a career with Bell Helicopter in 1969. Floyd began his career with Bell Helicopter as a draftsman, but he quickly moved into leadership roles as Lead Draftsman–Propulsion, Engineering Estimating, and Engineering Education. After earning his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in 1983, he was assigned as a Project Engineer for Medium Military Helicopters. The following year, he was selected to be the Principal Project Engineer for the Bell fleet of VH-1N Presidential Helicopters, where he served for over a decade. He served as Project Engineer for a number of Bell Military Helicopters from 1994-2000. Floyd was then selected to be the Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead for Propulsion Design for the Marine H-1 helicopter upgrade program and later for the attack aircraft AH-1Z and utility aircraft UH-1Y helicopters. In 2004, Floyd was named the Integrated Product Team Propulsion Lead for the Army’s Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH). Floyd retired from Bell Helicopter in December 2007 after almost 39 years of dedicated service.

Throughout his career and following retirement, Floyd has volunteered active support to many civic and community activities. He has been a volunteer for the Fort Worth Chapter of the March of Dimes for more than 38 years, and for 36 years he has volunteered his support for the Cowtown Marathon of Fort Worth, Texas. He has also volunteered his support for the Special Olympics for 8 years. Floyd has been a volunteer for the City of Arlington since 2008.

Floyd has remained a loyal supporter of the Corps of Cadets at UTA throughout his career. He has been a member of the Cadet Corps Alumni Council (CCAC) since its inception and provided continuous support to the Corps activities. He volunteered logistics support to the Cadet “Long March” to Fort Hood in March of 2010, and he has provided countless hours as a volunteer instructor during the reformation of the Sam Houston Rifles Drill Team as a major activity of the Corps. Floyd has also been a loyal supporter of the Cadet Corps Alumni Council scholarship program and has served as a member of the Executive Board since 2014.

Floyd and his wife Janet currently reside in Arlington. They have two children and five grandchildren.
